About the village
Russa Eklissia is a small, charming village, about 9 kms
east from Sitia on the way to Zakros. Outspread on ever-green hills ,
has a lovely panoramic view over the sea, coast and villages nearby, which can bring you unforgettable impressions. It's healthy climate and welcoming atmosphere can make Russa Eklissia well-chosen place for nice, peaceful rest.
In the heart of the village, which is picturesque square, you can find, worthy to see monument of last century history, Ag.Nikolaos Church. This church is amazingly based above flowing spring, which still gives pleasure with it's cold, refreshing water. This is exactly where Russa Eklissia owes it's name from. Well-known for it’s hospitality Crete, also here offers serene and friendly places, like local kafenios and taverns –“Katerina’s” and “Platanos” open daily at late afternoons, where you can find great variety of local cuisine, tasteful homemade specialities , not to mention greek raki and ouzo. Sitting in soothing shadow of 700 years old plane-tree, you can chill out with your friends or family, having languid evening.
